(Read More Here). A woman down in New York City is facing criminal charges after hitting a disabled man when she sped down the sidewalk. She was apparently trying to hit her ex-boyfriends sister. (Read More Here).
According to NY Daily News, alleged hit-and-run driver Kiani Phoenix, 26, was the victim of domestic abuse at the hands of her ex boyfriend and spent 18 months in a mental institution because of her trauma.
“The cause of this whole situation starts with the assault on her,” her lawyer Melvin Kornberg told the outlet. “She in no way intended to kill this man.”
Kiani ended up getting into a physical altercation with her ex boyfriend’s sister when the two ran into one other inside a bodega.
The sister blamed Kiani because police were looking for her brother.
“Had they made the arrest months ago, none of this would have ever happened,’ Kornberg said. ‘That’s the catalyst with the fight – the fact she has these complaints against the brother.”
After the altercation , Kiani can be seen behind the wheel of her Honda hop the curve and hit a disabled man as others scattered.
Kiani was charged with second degree murder, attempted murder in the second degree, leaving the scene of an accident and other charges.
Her boyfriend was arrested on Tuesday, and charged with endangering the welfare of a minor and assault on a 42-year-old woman, Kiani’s mother.
