Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that University of Kentucky Student, Sophia Rosing, Arrested For Assaulting and Calling a Black Female Student, Kylah Spring, a N***er.
Police arrested a University of Kentucky student who was caught on camera using a racial slur and physically attacking two Black students Sunday.
Police arrested Sophia Rosing, 22, who is white, just before 4 a.m. at a campus dorm on charges of intoxication in a public place, third-degree assault on a police officer, fourth-degree assault and second-degree disorderly conduct, according to an online record from the Fayette County Detention Center, which says she is being held on $10,000 bond.
Video of the assault, which circulated on social media Sunday, shows Rosing using a racial slur as she strikes at a woman who is working at a dormitory front desk. The student tries to restrain Rosing, who appears to be visibly intoxicated and struggles to stay standing in the video.
“Could you stop?” asks the victim, who was working an overnight shift at Boyd Hall, university President Eli Capilouto told students in an email Sunday. (The video is captioned “what I had to deal with at work.”)
“Nope,” Rosing responds.
“I do not get paid enough for this,” the victim says, as Rosing calls her a racial slur. “I got this all on video,” says someone recording the assault.
The video then shows the first victim and another victim trying to place Rosing in a chair. Rosing tries to punch the second victim before she tries to kick the first victim; it is unclear whether she struck either.
The video ends showing a white male police officer handcuffing Rosing in the dorm as she continues to repeat the racial slur and struggles to remain standing.
Nobody answered at any of the phone numbers publicly listed under Rosing’s name. A Facebook message to what appears to be her account also went unanswered.
University of Kentucky said in a statement, “Early this morning, a disturbing incident was captured on video in a residence hall. The video is deeply offensive, and we take it very seriously. Our Office of Student Conduct also is conducting an immediate review, and our Student Success teams are reaching out to the student victims who were subject to this behavior to offer support.”
UK added, “To be clear: we condemn this behavior and will not tolerate it under any circumstance. The safety and well-being of our community has been — and will continue to be — our top priority.” Rosing could not be reached for comment by Heavy and it was not clear if she hired an attorney.
Spring wrote on Facebook, “The crazy thing is I love my school, and I want to be successful here. I didn’t deserve this I wear my school across my chest everyday and I may have a hard time but I never thought this would happen to me. I matter just as much as the next person! I pray these people hear me and stand with me.”
Kylah Spring, a fine arts student from Memphis, Tennessee, wrote on Facebook that she was attacked while working her student job. She said she was called n***** repeatedly and the attacker, since identified as Sophia Rosing, bit her on the arm multiple times.
Spring wrote, “I am a desk clerk at Boyd Hall at the University of Kentucky and it is part of my job to notify the on call RA of any drunk students who look unwell. This girl was very drunk upon entry of the residence so I asked if she was okay and continued to try and get her to sit down, also she doesn’t seem to be a resident so I tried to keep her from going in the elevator. My friend was also bit and swung at by this girl as well as a few others including the OFFICER.”
She posted videos of the incident, that show Rosing saying the n-word several times and assaulting Spring and another student. She also can be seen in a video clip repeating n***** over and over as a University of Kentucky police officer tries to handcuff her. Spring said the incident happened about 1 a.m.
