Students injured as Police storms students of Vandal hall of the University of Ghana, Legon, as they observe a vigil night as part of traditions associated to hall celebration.




The vigil started calmly at 6pm at the diaspora(UGEL) hostels at the University of Ghana. They then proceeded to Volta hall to observe the vigil also and encountered the police.


The vigil night is associated with the traditions of the hall. It was reported that some Vandals were arrested and some were injured severely. The university also sacked all continuing male students of the Mensah Sarbah Hall. The university explained that the decision was taken to prevent recurrent violent clashes between male residents of the two halls. Female students and students with special needs were exempted, according to a notice from the university’s registrar. The expelled continuing students were randomly assigned to available rooms in any of the University of Ghana Enterprise Limited Hostel and private hostels.


The unfortunate incident happened when they got to the Volta hall to continue with the tradition. It was all said to be calm until the Ghana Police started engaging them with shockers and canes.
