There was a bizarre crossover at Old Trafford when iShowSpeed met Manchester United legend Paddy Crerand.
American YouTube star Speed, who has rapidly rose to fame online this year, travelled over from Ohio to attend United’s Carabao Cup clash with Aston Villa, which they won 4-2. He was aiming to watch his idol Cristiano Ronaldo play in the flesh for the first time.
But the 17-year-old was left disappointed after Ronaldo missed out through illness. However, former United midfielder Crerard, 83, was in attendance, and he was introduced to the eccentric Speed – leading to a bizarre exchange between the pair.
Speed asked him “You’re a legend?”, prompting Crerard to comment: “I played here before you were born.”
Ever the joker, Speed then asked if he was David Beckham. “I’m a little bit older than David Beckham, about 30 years older,” replied Crerard.
The Scot saw the funny side of Speed’s antics, who had him laughing once more after he suggested he’d played for United “back in 1720”.
They crossed paths again later on in the evening, with Speed live streaming his trip to Old Trafford to his 12.8million subscribers. Crerard told him: “Legends are dead, I’m f***ing still alive.”
While he missed out on meeting Ronaldo, Speed did get to meet United legend Patrick Crerand, even if he didn’t know who he was.
Introduced to Crerand as a ‘Manchester United legend’, Speed said: “You’re a legend? You played here? Wait, [David] Beckham?! What’s your name, bro?”
