Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Sibusiso Zikalala, identified as the Off Duty JMPD cop who got shot dead and killed by SAPS Police Officer after altercation in the parking lot of Drama nightclub in Braamfontein, Johannesburg.
Taking to social media, his cousin Sipho Nhlapo, revealed that Sibusiso Zikalala was the one who was killed during the altercation at the groove.
Sipho wrote: “This is my brother SIBUSISO ZIKALALA. Ive seen quite a bit of commentary and videos about his passing that i thought I’d share a bit about his life and how he lived it…
SIBUSISO was a member of the JMPD for almost 20years as a decorated K9 officer who was instrumental in a ton of major drug busts. He lived to serve and protect and moreso in his last moments emphasised his grounding in the former when protecting his wife and mother of the youngest of his 4 beautiful babies from antagonists who put their hands on her and threatened to wield a gun on them.
“(We even noticed bruising on his head and shoulders at the mortuary, indicating that he may have even been assaulted even as he lay dead on the cold streets, alleged that he may have had someone’s foot on his neck and head after he died)
“Besides the atrocities he faced almost on a daily, sacrificing time away from the family which he valued more than anything SIBUSISO never lost his smile. I remember on his day off, he took me to my matric dance, gave me spending money and waited outside the whole night for the event to finish so he could take my date and I home. Even though off-duty I remember him making calls in the car following up on outstanding cases, speaking of off-duty escapades, he once even chased after and apprehended a suspect while not even on the clock – talk about dedication to serving and protecting!
” With the softest of voices and gentlest of smiles he would call me “Young Man” as I cried to him and vented in anger about one or the other life impediments and thats all he needed to say for me to know everything would be ok.

“SIBUSISO ZIKALALA was a hero and one of the most loving and gentle people I know. He made sure everyone was happy and safe. And though you might not know or realise it, HE MADE SURE YOU WERE SAFE AS WELL!
“I will miss him so much. And I hope before you make more comments about his passing, take the opportunity to get to know his life too!
“Apparently, the Metro police officer confronted the SAPS officer, and there was an altercation between them. It’s alleged that the JMPD officer had a gun in his hands and ended up slapping the SAPS cop who was in the car at the time,” he said.
“There was a shooting which was discharged by the SAPS offer, which then allegedly fatally wounded the Metro police officer,” Raburabu said.
He confirmed that both officers were off duty at the time of the incident. AN alleged argument between a South African Police Service (SAPS) officer police and a Joburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officer ended in death on the streets of Braamfontein, Joburg.
It is alleged that the police officer shot and killed the Metro cop outside a nightclub on Monday morning, 26 June.
Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) spokesman Robbie Raburabu confirmed the incident and the death of a Metro cop.
A video of the incident has since surfaced and it is being shared by social media users showing the officer wearing a white top holding a gun in his right hand trying to pull a man from the car.
Moments later gunshots are heard and the man who was holding the gun is seen lying on the floor with blood on his chest.
JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla confirmed the incident and said it is being investigated by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid).
“We know about the incident but we can’t comment as the officer was off duty. The matter is being handled by Ipid for investigation,” said Fihla.
Meanwhile, Ipid has confirmed that it is investigating a murder case after a member of the Johannesburg Metro Police was gunned down allegedly by a South African Police Service member.
Ipid spokesperson Robbie Raburabu said the department is aware of the incident and they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a JMPD officer.
Raburabu said no one had been arrested so far and investigations continue.
