Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Riot has broken out at Union Square Park in New York City after Twitch streamer, Kai Cenat, organize massive giveaway.
Thousands of people have overrun Union Square Park and surrounding lanes of traffic Friday as a popular Twitch streamer held a video game giveaway.
Kai Cenat announced the giveaway on his Instagram. NYPD officials told New Yorkers to avoid the area surrounding Union Square Park.
They didn’t immediately have information on the rowdy crowd, other than police responded to an “unscheduled event.”
Cenat, as seen in the Twitch stream, encouraged everyone to stay safe as he jumped out the car and headed toward the crowd. Upon first arriving over the scene, Shannon Sohn in Newscopter 7 reported seeing a group of police officers holding up pieces of plywood and taking cover behind cars that were stuck on 14th Street because of the crowd as they were pelted by objects thrown from the mass of people.
The MTA says 4, 5, 6, L, N, Q, R, and W subway trains are currently bypassing Union Square station. Crowd members threw objects, set off a fire extinguisher and climbed on the roof of a subway station, CBS New York reported, with live video showing throngs of people.
The chaos apparently also prompted subway trains on several lines — the 4, 5, 6, L, N, Q, R and W — to bypass the 14th Street-Union Square station just as Friday’s rush hour began, MTA officials tweeted.
