Barino’s body was found around 11:15 AM, with her head separated from her body. She was a local resident who lived alone in her home. Authorities were called to the scene after the discovery, where they found her body hanging outside the door of her balcony, with her head lying at the bottom of the stairs.
Police Captain Eden Rex Baguio, chief of the Dumanjug Police Station, clarified that there was no evidence of foul play or struggle at the scene. “Wala gyud na siya putlig ulo,” he said, emphasizing that the cause of death did not appear to involve violence.
He explained that the condition of the body suggested it had been deceased for approximately 48 hours, and the rapid decomposition was likely due to the extreme heat.
The police also confirmed that there were no signs of forced entry into Barino’s house, and all her belongings were untouched, including her necklace and a bundle of P3,400 found on her body during the Scene of the Crime Operations (SOCO) investigation.
He explained that the dogs in the area may have disturbed the body, causing her head to fall.
Barino has five dogs living with her.
The victim’s 9-year-old great-grandson, who regularly helped Barino with errands, was the one to discover her body after checking on her house.
Her relatives, who live about 500 meters away, suspect that the cause of death could have been a heart attack or a fall. Baguio added, “Mura siya’g nadagma didto sa gawas sa pultahan nya ang iyang ulo nagbitay sa permirong ang-ang sa hagdan,” suggesting that the fall may have led to her death.
Despite the absence of any visible wounds, the police have requested an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
