Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Offset and Jamie Lee have recreated James Brown and Sonya Friedman 1988 interview in new song teaser ‘Jealousy’.
Brown appeared on CNN’s new program Sonya Live in April 1988 after being released on bail following an arrest for allegedly hitting his then-wife Adrienne Lois Rodriguez. As Friedman attempted to question if the charges had been dropped and the status of his relationship with Rodriguez, Brown began to sing and veered the conversation towards his upcoming tour stops and music.
Offset teased the arrival of new music in a brief clip in which he recreated James Brown’s infamous 1988 CNN interview (below), with Jamie Lee Curtis playing the role of reporter Sonya Friedman.
“Y’all ready for some new music???….JEALOUSY!!” the Migos alum wrote in the post up top.
“Your fans are saying that there’s a lot of drama between you and your beautiful wife, Cardi B,” Oscar-winner Curtis opens the clip. Offset—just as the Godfather of Soul did—belligerently and hilariously evades the question.
Assisted by Jamie Lee Curtis standing in for reporter Sonya Friedman, the Migos member captioned the video “Y’all ready for some new music???….JEALOUSY!!” In the clip, the Oscar-winning actress poses, “Your fans are saying that there’s a lot of drama between you and your beautiful wife, Cardi B?”
Offset, echoing Brown’s memorable evasiveness, laughs it off, before Curtis replies, “Ok, you’re not going to answer my fucking question, are you?” She adds, “She seems upset, Offset,” before the artist declares, “Let’s talk about some music.” The video cuts to the date “July 28th” across the screen.
The video concludes with the announcement that Offset will drop new music on July 28.
Brown appeared on Sonya Live in April 1988 after he was released on bail. The arrest stemmed from the late singer allegedly striking his then-wife Adrienne Lois Rodriguez with a lead pipe and shooting at her car, according to Esquire.
When Friedman attempted to get answers from Brown, he displayed erratic behavior, leading many to believe he was high at the time of the interview. Brown seemingly tried to avoid questions regarding his ex-wife and suggested that the conversation switch over to the topic of new music, which is the excerpt Offset tapped into in the above video.
