Kitui East MP Hon. Nimrod Mbai arrested for assaulting KPlC Engineer at his Kitengela farm.
IEK President Erick Ohaga in a statement on Tuesday criticized the lawmaker for the act which was captured in a now-viral video, terming his behaviour an ‘intimidation to their workers’ as they called for the apprehension of the MP.
“Our attention is drawn to a video clip capturing the MP for Kitui East, humiliating and assaulting an engineer, a member of staff of Kenya Power for purportedly leading a team in removing illegal power poles and installations within the vicinity of the MP’s home in Kitengela,” read the statement.
In the video, the MP is donning a Bermuda blue polo shirt and beige khaki pants and is armed. He appears angry and full of himself, hurling insults at the dumfounded officials from Kenya Power and at the same time intimidating them.
The team from Kenya Power was reacting to continuous complaints by clients in the area when they discovered that the lawmaker had illegally connected electricity to his home. “In the clip, the assailant MP is captured using unacceptable language towards the engineer and his team in front of other employees and onlookers. This unwarranted intimidation, harassment, and vicious assault towards the engineer in the course of his duty is an unacceptable affront to the whole engineering fraternity and in particular, to the esteemed members of the Institution of Engineers.”
IEK added: “We condemn in the strongest terms possible the actions of the Member of Parliament for Kitui East and demand that he faces the full force of the law for his unlawful conduct towards the Kenya power engineer.”
