Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Mychal the Librarian has resigned from his role at the Solano County Library to prioritize his mental health.

A popular Bay Area librarian whose social media posts promote literacy, kindness and positivity — along with messages about mental health — announced Friday that he’s leaving his job next month to prioritize his mental health.

“Libraries are so much more than books,” said Threets, who is known for his high energy and colorful wardrobe. “It’s a place that’s there for you. The doors are open. The library is for everybody.”

Threets has hundreds of thousands of followers on TikTok and Instagram and has received mostly positive feedback about his posts, which generally consist of book reviews, his library experiences and mental health messages. He was profiled in the New York Times for his “upbeat take on libraries.”

Recently, though, Threets became the subject of insults on social media.

Mychal Threets, supervising librarian for Fairfield Civic Center Library in Solano County, said his last day on the job is March 1. “Dear Solano County Library, I just want to say thank you,” he said in a video posted to social media. “This is a place where I’ve always felt safe, where I’ve always felt like I belong. I went from library kid to being in charge of the library I grew up in. I am leaving to prioritize my mental health, to work with my mental health check-in team.”
