Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Merab Dvalishvili carrying Henry Cejudo across the octagon cage like a baby and throwing him in front of Mark Zuckerberg at UFC 298 goes viral.
Dvalishvili responded to complete the first takedown, although Cejudo sprung back to his feet quickly and then ate a right hand before finding himself in top position in a strong end to the first round.
Renowned for his wrestling, it was on the feet where Dvalishvili found success in the second, landing some good combinations in the middle part of the round as Cejudo’s pace slowed.
A late guillotine attempt from Dvalishvili looked like it was in deep but Cejudo survived to set up a decisive final round.
With the momentum in his favour, the Georgian pressed home his advantage, landing a series of knees and then lifting his opponent aloft and carrying him around the Octagon before slamming him to the canvas.
Cejudo attempted a late takedown but it was to no avail as Dvalishvili added another former champion to his resume.
It was Dvalishvili’s 10th-straight win dating back five years, as he was discovered by Dana White as part of his “Lookin’ For a Fight” series, making him one of the most successful fighters to come off the show.
Cejudo entered the fight on the heels of a UFC bantamweight title loss to Aljamain Sterling, keeping himself right in the thick of the bantamweight title picture.
Cejudo said pre-fight that getting back to the top of the division is his biggest goal before he officially hangs up the gloves. The former double-champion did promise retirement with a loss, which he was unable to clarify immediately following the result.
