Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed released a statement Sunday afternoon:

Last night, the Montgomery Police Department acted swiftly to detain several reckless individuals for attacking a man who was doing his job. Warrants are being signed and justice will be served.

This was an unfortunate incident which never should have occurred. As our police department investigates these intolerable actions, we should not become desensitized to violence of any kind in our community. Those who choose violent actions will be held accountable by our criminal justice system.

Tameka Coleman said, not so fast for Shipman. “He was right there in the mix, don’t post a picture and try to say your eyes didn’t see what happened on video.” Selma resident Jelani Coleman also expressed disappointment. “In my opinion,  I don’t think anyone should support any business owner or business in Selma who engages in physical violence.” Added Kristy S. Thomas-Edwards: “It might have happened in Montgomery, but people were from Selma.”

Vasser’s Mini-Mart owner, Chase Shipman, identified as the one of the white men beaten by black people during ‘Boston Tea Party’ at Montgomery Riverfront, Alabama.

Video footage of the incident has circulated on social media platforms, showing several white individuals fighting a single black man, who is identified as a dock worker. The video captures the intense altercation, with witnesses shouting and urging others to intervene.

Vassers Mini Mart at this point you might as well just shut the whole store down 😂
