Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that India have emerged as winner of SAFF CHAMPIONS 2023 after defeating Kuwait in 4-5 penalty shootout.




A determined Team India edged Kuwait in a tense penalty shootout to clinch a record ninth SAFF Championship title in Bengaluru on Tuesday.

India finished with a score-line of 5-4 in the shoot-out after both sides were deadlocked 1-1 in 120 minutes in the summit clash.


Defending champion India and Kuwait had also played out a 1-1 draw in their last group match.

This was the second time India won in the penalty shootout. They had made it to Tuesday’s summit clash after beating Lebanon 4-2 in penalty shootout in the semifinal on July 1. Sandhu had also made a crucial save in the shootout then. 


who are 100th in the latest FIFA rankings, won their ninth SAFF Championship 2023 in 14 editions. This was India’s second silverware on the trot after clinching the Intercontinental Cup last month.    


After the regulation time ended 1-1 and neither team could score in the extra time, the final came down to penalties. Kuwait’s captain Hajjeia missed the decisive spotkick in sudden death.


In regulation time, the newly-crowned AIFF Player of the Year Lallianzuala Chhangte (39’) had equalised for India after Shabaib Al Khaldi (14’) had given the Kuwait football team the early lead.
