A final year student of UNIBEN (University of Benin) studying Fine and Applied Arts, Emmanuel Omoregie, has sculpted the statue of Activist, Aisha Yesufu, on Ekehuan Campus. (Read More Here).




Taking to his Twitter page, Emmanuel Omoregie, shared photos of Aisha Yesufu’s statue he had sculpted as his final year project. According to Emmanuel, he says he did the sculpture of Aisha Yesufu to appreciate her roles towards contemporary activism in Nigeria. 


Aisha Yesufu gained fame after her incredible work of activism during the time Chibok girls got kidnapped during Goodluck Jonathan’s regime. 


She gained another recognition during her iconic act of activism during the End SARS protests in October 2020. Her photos got praised and compared to “Statue of Liberty.” 

Emmanuel Omoregie wrote:


“I thank the Lord, for this.

I am Omoregie Emmanuel, as part of the requirements for the award of B.A Fine and Applied Arts, I made a stylized Figure of Aisha Yesufu, to appreciate her roles towards contemporary activism in Nigeria.

“This is the statue of freedom located at University of Benin, Ekehuan Campus.

This is to appraise the roles of @AishaYesufu to the development of contemporary activism.” 


After the photos began to go viral, Aisha Yesufu, took to her Twitter page to react. According to her, she says she’s speechless, but she won’t take what Emmanuel had done for granted. 


She wrote: “I am speechless!

I really don’t know what to say.

I do not take any of this for granted. 

Thank you.”
