Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that DENR built swimming pool resort in the middle of Chocolate Hills in Captain’s peak..

Many netizens expressed their disapproval on various social media platforms regarding the construction of a resort in the middle of Chocolate Hills, a popular tourist destination in Bohol and is recognized as one of the “Eight Wonders of the World”.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the local government of Bohol were criticized for permitting the establishment of a resort in the province’s prominent tourist spot, particularly given Chocolate Hill’s designation as both a National Geological Monument and a UNESCO Global Geopark.

“The DENR-EMB will continue to monitor,” DENR said.

But why was it allowed to be built in the location in the first place?

Even if Chocolate Hills is a protected area under Republic Act 7586 or an Act Providing for the Establishment and Management of Natural Integrated Protected Areas System (NIPAS), much of the land is still privately owned, according to Municipal Planning and Development Cooridinator Maximo Lomosbog in an interview with The Freeman.
