After crashing into two cars, be quickly brought out his firearm as he shot himself dead.

Columbia Police (CPD) officers announced the death of two after a domestic-related shooting led to a pursuit and fatal crash on Garners Ferry Road.

CPD officers say they were dispatched around 11:00 a.m. to the Cross Hill Apartments on Blossom Street for a reported domestic incident involving a weapon. When officers arrived, they learned that a female received a non-life-threatening gunshot wound in the lower body.

CPD says they located the car parked behind a business on Leesburg Road, prompting CPD officers to request assistance from the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

After attempting to evade Columbia Police and Richland County deputies, the suspect became involved in a multi-vehicle crash at Hazelwood and Garners Ferry Road.

Authorities confirmed the crash killed a male driver and his dog. South Carolina Highway Patrol’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating the crash.

After the collision, CPD officers and RCSD deputies detained the suspect on the scene. Officers say an initial investigation indicated that the suspect likely shot himself in the lower body while in his vehicle.

After detainment, the suspect was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

CPD officers seized the suspect’s gun from his vehicle at the crash scene.

Police also confirmed the suspect was live streaming during the initial police
pursuit.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office is assisting CPD with the investigation to identify the deceased
