A California woman is finally speaking out after being brutally attacked and sexually assaulted by a homeless man while she was walking her dogs in her Los Angeles neighborhood.

Marissa Young spoke with KTLA about the horrible attack that would change her life forever. One night in July of this year, Young was walking in her neighborhood when a random man came from behind and attacked her. Young says the man punched her numerous times in the face, breaking her nose and other bones in her face, and raped her there in the street.

Less than 2 days after the attack, the suspect was tracked down and identified as a transient man named Darrell Waters, 46. Police say Waters had just been released a few days earlier for the unlawful possession of a knife. Young says it’s unacceptable for Waters to be allowed back on the streets. Because he was released, it resulted in the attack, so she feels the police are somewhat responsible.

“It makes me angry,” Young said. “It’s horrifying to think that they were holding this guy with a huge knife that was taken off him. That’s illegal and he was let go the next day even though he has a record.”

The Torrance City Attorney’s Office provided KTLA with a statement saying Waters’ release by the Torrance Police Department was “in accordance with the penal code.” Waters was arrested on felony charges of rape, oral copulation, and sexual penetration by force. He is being held without bail.

This is wild! I’m glad she’s recovering from this horrific attack.
