Beyoncé seemingly skips over Lizzo’s name during the Queens Remix performance of ‘Break My Soul’ tonight at the Renaissance World Tour.
She instead repeats Erykah Badu’s name four times.
In the song, Queen Bey honored a number of revolutionary Black female artists by mentioning their names at a stretch. Through the lyrics of the song, she pays her tribute to Rosetta Tharpe, Aretha Franklin, Anita Baker, Nina Simone, Bessie Smith, Santigold, Solange Knowles, Betty Davis, Roberta Flack, Grace Jones, Janet Jackson, Toni Braxton, Erykah Badu, Helen Folasade Adu, Jill Scott, Diana Gordon, Kelly Rowland, Missy Elliott, Tierra Whack, Lauryn Hill, and Lizzo.
However, skipping Lizzo’s name struck fans as the 41-year-old singer’s performance came hours after news broke out that Lizzo was facing a lawsuit filed by three of her former backup dancers. The About Damn Time hitmaker has been accused of s**ual harassment and creating a hostile work environment, amid several other allegations.
Davis, Williams and Rodriguez are asking the courts for damages including unpaid wages, loss of earnings, deferred compensation, employment benefit, emotional distress, medical expenses and attorneys’ fees.
But Beyoncé’s “Badu, Badu, Badu, Badu” moment on Tuesday also came one day after the legendary soul singer appeared to cast some social media shade in her direction.
On Monday, Badu reportedly posted a photo on Instagram of Beyoncé wearing an oversized hat on stage during her Renaissance tour, followed by another image of herself rocking a very similar look.
“I guess I’m everybody stylist,” Badu wrote.
“Beyoncé reiterating Badu and skipping Lizzo… that’s on hitting 2 birds with 1 stone,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
