Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that 4-year-old girl seen working and mining at mines in Congo.
The killings are taking place in the eastern provinces of the DRC, which are rich in natural resources such as gold, coltan, and cobalt. These resources are often mined by armed groups, who use them to fund their activities. They terrorize civilians, raping, looting & killing.
The Congolese government has been unable to stop the violence. It is weak and corrupt, and it does not have the resources or the will to protect its citizens. The international community has also failed to do enough to stop the killings.
The killings in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) are a serious humanitarian crisis. According to the United Nations, over 5.7 million people have been displaced by the violence, and over 13 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance.
“The most recent escalation of the conflict has uprooted more people in less time like rarely seen before,” said IOM’s chief of mission in Congo, Fabien Sambussy.
More than two-thirds of those displaced, nearly 4.8 million people, live with host families, the IOM said, further squeezing already impoverished communities.
Frustration has been growing over the increase in violence. Earlier this month, the Congolese government directed the East African regional force, deployed just last year to help end the fighting, to leave the country by December. The government alleged a “lack of satisfactory results on the ground.”
The U.N. peacekeeping mission also has faced pressure to withdraw from Congo after more than two decades in the country.
