Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that 22-year-old lion, Tonga, seen roaming around in the snow at N3 Toll Route along Van Reenen, Montrose, I’m South Africa.

Some motorists have now been stuck in the snow on the N3 for more than 14 hours. They described surviving the night and the nightmarish cold as they got stuck on the N3 yesterday. Meanwhile, the snow warning given by the South African Weather Service on Friday has now been upgraded to a Level 8 warning. Rescue workers were dispatched to the N3 Toll Route along Van Reenen Pass on Saturday morning after it was closed entirely between Estcourt and Harrismith due to heavy snowfall, icy conditions, and poor visibility. Traffic authorities said that motorists are urged to avoid travel in KwaZulu-Natal, Free State, and surrounding regions as dangerous conditions persist. Several trucks and vehicles are stuck on the road, and backlogs run for kilometers.

“The snow got really heavy, we tried to carry on down towards Montrose and to have another stop over there. On the way we were stuck for about half an hour, there were incidents on the road from about 9 o’ clock last night until now.”

His colleague says they were not given any indication beforehand despite seeing emergency vehicles along the route. READ MORE HERE

“When we left Bergview, the road was open and there were police and emergency services but not once did they stop the people and say go back. So, everyone rode and rode until we just came to a halt.

“We are fine, we’ve got power and enough fuel. My concern is that there are people here you can see with children and with elderly people. We are not far from Harrismith but we don’t see any small initiative from the Harrismith side, where there are emergency rescue teams.”
