Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that graduates of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) have celebrated their great achievements by displaying their cultural heritage. (Read More Here).

According to information, the University of KwaZulu-Natal held their annual graduation ceremony on May 12, 2022, and it became the talk of the town as a few Mzansi found the cultural displays to be ‘cringe.’

Fortunately, the Zulus found everything being displayed at the convocation ceremony entertaining and incredible.

When the graduating students are called up on stage, they begin to show off some traditional Zulu dance steps. After receiving their testimonials, they also dance on stage and get off stage to dance with their excited parents.

Mixed reactions from Mzansi below:

Ukzn graduation ceremonies are an actual event. People actually show gratitude for their achievements. What I like is that the university actually promotes that.

Majority of UKZN graduates are from poor, rural KZN. It’s natural that when we graduate, we graduate our way! The UKZN way!! We will sing and dance!!

UKZN has produced thousands of academics all over the country but today it get to be reduced to a “Zulu institution”merely because the Zulus celebrate their achievements in their own way, something that can happen anywhere ,heal your souls.

UKZN graduations are rubbing our colonial clerks up the wrong way cause the celebrations contradict what they view as “civilised” since they view the world from a European lens.

They want to feel special by maintaining a close proximity to whiteness by suppressing their own.

I love that UKZN doesn’t try to police the celebrations. We love to see this display of black Joy.

UKZN should actually televise their graduations ceremonies.

If you find UKZN graduations “cringe” then YOU’RE the problem.

Abantu go through SO MUCH during the 3+ years, their families sacrifice everything for lela jazi AND others lose their loved ones in the process. It’s not a big deal to you, it’s a big deal to someone else.
