Thomas Haden Church says he’s heard rumours of a Sam raimi spider-man 4 and would like to be sandman again.
“I’ve heard rumors…that Sam Raimi was going to do another Spider-Man movie with Tobey Maguire and if that happens, I would probably campaign to maybe at least do a cameo.”
This isn’t the first time that Church has expressed interest in revisiting his Sandman role in a future Spider-Man film. Back in March, Church explained how Sandman was originally set to have a larger role in No Way Home: “We had a whole story involving his daughter, for No Way Home. And it just ended up [cut]. There was just so much going on.” The actor went on to reveal that he has spoken with both Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige about bringing Sandman back for a future MCU film. “The conversation has happened about him coming back, and maybe picking up a more fulfilling story.
“There’s always been some kind of…I’ve heard rumors…that Sam Raimi was going to do another [Spider-Man movie] with Tobey [Maguire] and if that happens, I would probably campaign to maybe at least do a cameo,” Church told ComicBook.com. Church first appeared as Flint Marko/Sandman opposite Maguire’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 (2007), serving as the film’s primary antagonist. He returned to voice the CG-created Sandman in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, with archive footage of Church from Spider-Man 3 being used for the scenes where Sandman is depicted as human.
The actor made his debut in the Spider-Man universe back in 2007 in Spider-Man 3, where he played the villain Sandman/Flint Marko. The character appeared once again in Spider-Man: No Way Home, returning along with former franchise stars Alfred Molina and Willem Dafoe as Doctor Octopus and the Green Goblin respectively.
With the recent introduction of the concept of the multiverse into the MCU and Sony Pictures developing their own franchise based on Spider-Man characters, the return of Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker and even a fourth movie from the Sam Raimi saga doesn’t seem so unlikely anymore.
