Thierry Henry believes Kevin De Bruyne is the best creative midfielder the Premier League has ever seen “by a distance”.

De Bruyne enjoyed another outstanding season as City won the treble, registering 10 goals and an incredible 28 assists across all competitions. The Belgian forged an instant relationship with Erling Haaland to take his creative game to the next level.

After a period of struggle midway through the season, Pep Guardiola told his midfield talisman to return to basics before the Champions League last-16 second-leg against RB Leipzig. He duly complied with an outstanding performance in a 7-0 win, going on to enjoy his best form of the season in the following months.

Henry knows De Bruyne well from two spells as assistant coach for the Belgian national team, and while speaking about previous winners of the PFA Players’ Player of the Year Award, he reserved special praise for the City star.
