Thembinkosi Lorch, Orlando Pirates football player, has been found guilty of assaulting his girlfriend, Fundiswa Mathithibala, by the Randburg Magistrate’s Court. 




Phindi Mjonondwane, NPA Gauteng Spokesperson, said Lorch was not a credible witness.


Mathithibala said she was visiting Lorch when he left her at his home to go out with his friend. She saw that it was getting late and messaged him to return her car keys. On arrival, an argument ensued and Lorch became violent towards her and started to strangle her, beat her while pulling her up and down. She called for help and his friend came to her rescue.


 In January 2021, the case was provisionally withdrawn pending further investigation by the police. 


Said National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane at the time. The case relates to a complaint laid at the Midrand Police Station by Mathithibala in September 2020.


According to the charge sheet, Mathithibala was visiting Lorch at his Midrand home, however he left her to go out with his friends. National Prosecuting Authority Gauteng spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said Lorch was not a credible witness during the trial.


“Lorch was arrested on the 7th of September 2020 and was subsequently released on R2,000 bail. The case has been postponed to the of July 2023 for sentencing proceedings.”
