The new details have emerged over the death of 28-year-old, Brianna Gier, who died in custody of Georgia police as she was experiencing a schizophrenic episode.

It has been revealed that the Hancock County deputies did not properly close to patrol car door, leading to Brianna falling out and cracking her skull.

Last week, we reported on Brianna’s mysterious death. Her parents called the police to help them deescalate a situation they were having with Brianna at their home. They assumed that an ambulance would come and take her to the local hospital, but it was the sheriff’s department instead. When they detained Brianna and placed her in the back seat, you can hear her scream at the officers in fear.

Once they got Brianna into the car, they closed the door, you can hear one of the officers ask if they closed the rear side door, to which one of them replied “yes”. Minutes after they pulled off from the Grier house, one of the officers stopped the car. The officer located Brianna lying on the side of the road, face down. The footage does not show the moment she fell out of the vehicle but does show her lying face first on the ground and the rear passenger car door open.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation determined that the officers did not check to see if both doors were closed, resulting in Brianna falling out. The officers didn’t even secure Brianna in a seatbelt, which could’ve also further prevented her from falling.

Attorney Ben Crump, who is representing Brianna’s family, says that the police department is completely at fault for the death of Brianna.

“It is the responsibility of law enforcement to keep everyone in their custody safe and alive, including when there is a mental health crisis,” Crump said in a statement. “Brianna’s family had faith in law enforcement to get her the help she needed, and now they are being forced to grieve her completely unnecessary death.”
