The KL High Court has granted Malaysian citizenship to a woman who was abandoned as a baby.
Hashimah, 39, succeeded in her challenge before the High Court to quash the National Registration Department’s refusal of her citizenship application on on July 29, 2020.
Hashimah was born on Jan 9, 1983. Police found her being abandoned by her biological parents during a raid the same year.
“She was only 3 months old at the time and subsequently lived in orphanages throughout her whole life as she was never adopted,” Lawyers for Liberty said.
3. “The identity of Hashimah’s biological parents remains unknown. Despite numerous attempts by Hashimah to identify and locate her biological parents, they were to no avail,” LFL said.
