The Home Ministry reveals that Pakistani journalist Syed Fawad Ali Shah was deported back to Islamabad in August 2022.
Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail says the deportation was done by the previous administration following a diplomatic request by the Pakistani government.
“Saya boleh sahkan berdasarkan pada rekod rasmi, tindakan yang dibuat bersesuaian dengan permintaan dibuat kerajaan Pakistan terhadap Syed Fawad. Kita kesan dan kemudiannya hantar pulang balik.”
“Ini status dia,” said the Home Minister. Saifuddin adds that while Syed Fawad has been known as a journalist, he is reportedly a former policeman with disciplinary issues, based on info from a Pakistani government source.
Syed Fawad was a UNHCR card holder and fled to Malaysia in 2009 to seek protection. Last week, Syed Fawad’s wife said he had gone missing since Aug 23 and became uncontactable.
She later found out that he was detained by the Immigration Department, and appealed for PM Anwar Ibrahim to find him.
He is known for exposing corrupt practices in Pakistan.
