The fight scenes in ‘ECHO’ have a little bit of a nod to Netflix’s ‘DAREDEVIL’ series

Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that the fight scenes in ‘ECHO’ have a little bit of a nod to Netflix’s ‘DAREDEVIL’ series.

Speaking about Echo during the show’s trailer debut event (per Comicbook.com), director and executive producer Sydney Freeland addressed the surprising news that the series will be the first of the MCU shows to get a TV-MA rating. With that rating will come a tone that’s more dark and gritty than most MCU shows, making it more comparable to the previous Daredevil series. Freeland spoke about being a big fan of Daredevil and how Echo pays tribute to the former Netflix show.

Considering Maya Lopez was one of the main villains in Disney+’s Hawkeye, and the writers and producers were eager to tell a more intense story focused on Echo’s trauma, Freeland shared that production decided to fully lean into the more bloody and brutal tone of the series. 

As mentioned, the Echo trailer teases a Daredevil fight, briefly showing the character in combat. It had been previously announced that Charlie Cox would be appearing as the character in the series ahead of his own show, Daredevil: Born Again. The trailer also featured the return of Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson “Kingpin” Fisk, revealing that he survived getting left for dead in Hawkeye. Alaqua Cox stars in the lead role as Maya Lopez, who’s now on the run from Kingpin, but that doesn’t mean she’s not still a villain.

“I dunno if I can say this, but I love the Netflix Daredevil, it’s great,” Freeland is quoted as saying. “And so we certainly took, obviously the Daredevil fight, it was a little bit of a nod to that series … But then also we wanted very adamantly to show that these are people in our show. They bleed, they die, they get killed, and there are real-world consequences. And again, talking, it’s not the fate of the universe at stake because I think once you go that broad, you can sort of lose sight a little bit. And so that kind of dictated the tone a little bit. So I guess to answer your question, it was a conversation, but it wasn’t that reason.”

Disney invited select press, including CinemaBlend, to Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California recently to preview scenes from Echo and speak with the show’s head writer/director, Sydney Freeland.
