The family of #VanessaGuillen, a Texas soldier who was sexually harassed and killed at the Fort Hood military base in 2020, filed a lawsuit on Friday seeking $35 million in damages from the U.S. government.




Vanessa was reported missing from Fort Hood in April 2020. Her remains were found that July when U.S. Army Specialist #AaronRobinson, the soldier accused of killing Guillén died by suicide after a confrontation with officers. Her case sparked outrage, inspiring protests across the country, and leading the Army to discipline more than a dozen officials.

The lawsuit states that 20-year-old Vanessa was a victim of sexual harassment, abuse, assault, rape, sodomy and wrongful death. An investigation conducted by military officials, found that leaders failed to take appropriate action.

“This will be an opportunity for every victim to feel not only like they have a voice but that they can be made whole,” said #NatalieKhawam, the woman who filed the lawsuit on the Guillen family’s behalf
