The dog depicted below is Bobi, officially recognized by Guiness World Records as the world’s oldest canine.

Bobi celebrated his 31st birthday on May 11, 2023, after being born in Portugal. His owner, Leonel Costa, informed Guiness that Bobi has been receiving a great deal of attention since being crowned as the oldest dog in the world.

“We’ve had a lot of journalists and people come from all over the world to take a picture with Bobi,” Costa said in a statement.

He also mentioned that Bobi, the senior pup, is in good health but recently underwent a check-up due to Costa’s concerns about the stress caused by frequent visitors.Bobi belongs to the Rafeiro do Alentejo breed, a Portuguese dog breed known for its ability to protect livestock, according to Costa. As Bobi has aged, he has encountered difficulties in walking and a decline in his eyesight.

Costa credits his dog’s longevity, in part, to the “calm, peaceful environment” in which Bobi lives.

In addition to being the oldest living dog, Bobi holds the record for the oldest dog ever recorded, as confirmed by Guinness. Costa was just 8 years old when his faithful canine companion came into the world.

“Bobi is special because looking at him is like remembering the people who were part of our family and unfortunately are no longer here, like my father, my brother, or my grandparents who have already left this world,” he expressed in the release.
