The $580,000 that was paid to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala farm is not shown anywhere in the South African Tax Service’s records, SARS has confirmed.

A “certain traveller,” or Sudanese businessman Hazim Mustafa, reportedly claimed to have paid $580,000 in December 2019 for cattle at President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala farm. SA’s tax agency has confirmed it has not found any record of a cash declaration by Mustafa.

Mustafa claimed to have complied with SA’s tax laws in a statement to Sky News in December. He claimed to have documents attesting to his arrival at OR Tambo International Airport on December 23, 2019, as well as another document demonstrating a declaration of $600,000 in cash.
