Texas is going full-blown HandMaids Tale, and usurping the power of independent prosecutors:
The Texas Legislature just passed a bill to take away much of the discretionary power bestowed upon locally elected prosecutors.
The new GOP priority legislation would seek to remove prosecutors from office if they don’t pursue certain crimes, particularly ones related to reproductive care.
The bill gained traction after some Democratic district attorneys said they would not prosecute abortion-related crimes.
Greg Abbott and Texas Republicans are engaged in not just a war on women’s rights, but a war on any independent power apparatus that seeks to protect them.
