“Jamal has not fulfilled the court order and my bankruptcy proceeding against him is ongoing,” the former Seputeh MP said.
Article 48(1) of the Federal Constitution states that a person is not qualified to be an MP if he or she is an “undischarged bankrupt”.
Seputeh MP Teresa Kok has filed a bankruptcy notice against Umno Sungai Besar division chief Jamal Yunos, after he failed to pay more than RM350,000 in a court ordered settlement.
“As of today, I have not yet received any compensation and cost from Jamal,” Teresa said.
“The total amount of damages and cost of action together with the interest of the judgment accumulated from July 26, 2022 until August 30, 2022 amounts to RM351,479.45,” said Teresa.
She adds that the notice was filed due to Jamal’s “careless and indifferent attitude.”
“If Jamal still doesn’t comply with the notice, proceedings will be conducted against him and he may be declared a bankrupt at the end of the trial,” Teresa said.
Utusan Malaysia reports that Jamal is currently in hospital after suddenly collapsing.
