The sheep drowned while trying to cross a small canal in the meadow-swamp Tøndermasken, in southern Jylland, Denmark. 

The sheep’s back was exposed and rotted away, leaving the spine and a portion of its ribcage visible. 

However, the portion of the sheep below the surface of the frigid water has been preserved intact.
