Sean Gunn’s Maxwell Lord will be referenced in the background of ‘SUPERMAN LEGACY’ but will appear in future DC projects.
Per Deadline, Gunn is set to play DC villain Maxwell Lord in the DCU. As of now, it’s not yet clear if Gunn’s Maxwell Lord will debut in the upcoming film Superman: Legacy, but he will reportedly be referenced in the background to help set up future appearances. The DCU will officially kick off in 2024 with the arrival of the animated series Creature Commandos on Max, and Gunn could potentially voice Maxwell if the character makes an appearance in the TV show. In any case, it would seem there are big plans for Gunn’s Maxwell in the DCU, but fans will have to stay tuned.
Sean, known for his role as Kraglin in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, has collaborated with James on multiple projects, including The Suicide Squad and the film Super. His TV credits include The Good Doctor, A Terminal List, The Rookie, Robot Chicken, and Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. Gunn’s collaboration with James Gunn extends beyond acting, as he co-created the series PG Porn with James and Brian Gunn and starred in The Belko Experiment, a film written by James Gunn.
In the DCEU, Maxwell Lord was portrayed by The Mandalorian and The Last of Us star Pedro Pascal, who just so happens to now be up for a major role in the MCU. Pascal’s version appeared in the 2020 sequel Wonder Woman 1984. Created by Keith Giffen, J. M. DeMatteis, and Kevin Maguire, the character has been appearing in DC Comics titles since his debut in 1987. He is typically depicted as a former ally of the Justice League who later turned into a villain for Wonder Woman and the superhero group.
Maxwell Lord, who made his debut in 1987’s Justice League #1, was initially introduced as an ally to the Justice League and played a significant role in the formation of Justice League International. However, his character evolved into a formidable adversary for the Justice League and Wonder Woman. In a twist of fate during the Invasion crossover, Lord gained superpowers when a Gene Bomb exploded, triggering his latent metagene and granting him the ability to control minds, albeit with challenges.
