The sky was the living witness to the Loud drums. The sturdy hands were hand beating on the drum. The strokes of sticks couldn’t have been a match to the symphony the hands created. Everyone was putting on a beret and Tolani couldn’t see through the blindfold. The initiation ceremony was about to begin soon. The cult members were all dressed in pink. Each person was exchanging pleasantries and salutation. Orientation in form of concealed tongues were exchanged between members. Loud hoofs and beat overcrowded the atmosphere as legs were raised. Tolani felt a sense of discomfort when the initiation started. Each member gathered up to beat her up. This was to toughen her up. The excitement left her with bruises and gashes on her back. The sky was the living witness that day. She witnessed the moment that tolani was fully initiated. When her hands were taught the secret handshakes and her tongues were sophisticated enough to utter the secret salutations.

For weeks, Tolani bore her scars with pride. A pungent reminder to the world that she was no more what she once was . She was no more ordinary. Her signature appeared on the skin of anyone who dared her path. Those who borrowed courage from the gods to throw invective at her were found headless corpses in bush. Bodies without eyes and head. Her reputation preceded her. She was nineteen and she had more souls in the palm of her hands than twice her age. Like all good things.. This too came to an end. The sky bore witness to Tolani’s execution. How half of her body was doused in acid before her arms were cut off. They left her in front of her door. Some said they waited till she bled to death. The earth tasted her blood till she was filled. The sky witnessed it all.
