The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has confirmed that the US dollars found hidden inside a couch on President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala farm were not declared upon entering South Africa.
The information was obtained by the Democratic Alliance (DA) through a request submitted under the Promotion of Access to Information Act.
Ramaphosa had claimed that the funds were part of a legitimate business transaction, but SARS’ response suggests otherwise. This new information adds to the findings of the Section 89 panel’s report, which suggested that Ramaphosa may have violated the Constitution and the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act.
The DA plans to use this information as evidence in any future legal proceedings against Ramaphosa.
