REPORT that The U.S senate is thinking about revoking Trump’s Secret Service protection if Trump is convicted and Jailed is unconfirmed.
The protection for sitting presidents, which remains today and can’t be rejected, also extends to their spouses and immediate family.
Congress is now thinking of MODIFYING the Former Presidents Act to include “conviction of a crime as a termination clause of protection.”
But in 1958, the Former Presidents Act was passed which, beginning 1965, would provide for a lifetime of protection for former presidents, their spouses and their children, up to the age of 15. (Protection of a spouse would terminate in the event of remarriage).
Senators’ reactions to President Donald Trump revoking former CIA director John Brennan’s security clearance mostly broke down along party lines, with Democrats condemning and Republicans defending him.
In a statement, Senate Intelligence Committee chairman Richard Burr, R-N.C., cited a New York Times op-ed published Thursday, after Brennan’s security was revoked, in which Brennan wrote that Trump’s claims of no collusion were “hogwash,” saying the only remaining questions were whether the collusion amounted to a criminal conspiracy and whether the Trump team obstructed justice in order to cover up the collusion Brennan alleged.
“For those wondering if it’s worth impeaching him this time, it means he: 1) loses his 200k+ pension for the rest of his life, 2) loses his 1 million dollar/year travel allowance, 3) loses lifetime full secret service detail, 4) loses his ability to run in 2024,” Ben Costiloe tweeted Jan. 8. He didn’t respond to USA TODAY’s request for comment. The tweet has since been deleted.
