Prosecutors reveal YNW Melly’s text messages where he allegedly confessed to murdering his friends: ‘I did that’
On Monday (July 17), Law & Crime Network executive producer Cathy Russon shared text messages allegedly sent by Melly in which he admitted to the charges brought against. In a Twitter post, she uploaded an image of the exchange and explained that it was presented to the court as a confession.
There’s not a lot of context here, so it’s possible his defense will be able to show that the texts don’t mean with the prosecution thinks they mean.
Sakchaser and Juvy were shot to death in a vehicle that Melly and his co-defendant were also in. While Melly has claimed his crewmates were victims of a driveby, forensic evidence suggests the bullets came from inside the car.
Melly faces the death penalty if convicted. She wrote: “On the final day of the State’s case, they finally introduce the “I did that. Shhh” text they told the jury about in their opening statement. Prosecutors say this is #YNWMelly’s confession to the killings.”
In explaining the defense, Russon added: “DAT v. THAT. On cross-exam, the defense shows many texts where #YNWMelly spells the word ‘that’ as ‘dat”. Defense insinuating whoever typed “that” wasn’t their client. #YNWMellyTrial”
