Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says Malaysia will immediately distribute 1 million copies of the Quran worldwide in response to the burning of the Islamic holy book in Sweden.
He says Malaysia condemns the act in the strongest terms.
“I agree that the most beneficial way to respond to this insane and impudent act is to continue the efforts that have been started and to have the resolve to print and distribute one million copies of the Quran around the world in the shortest time possible,” Anwar says.
He adds that this will be followed up with various programmes to build appreciation and understanding of the Quran.
The distribution will be done by Yayasan Restu, which is well-known for the production of Quran manuscripts and Quran-related publications.
Anwar says other Muslim nations will be consulted in the efforts to distribute the Quran worldwide.
