Police are verifying a video showing a couple allegedly trespassing at Merdeka 118, as they’re not ruling out that it could be digitally modified.
KL police say they were informed by PNB that the security at the tower would have prevented anyone to enter, let alone climb it.
The police are working with the MCMC to verify the authenticity of the video.
The authorities are also in the process of obtaining the immigration records of the Russian couple.
So far, only one police report had been received from the PNB management. Angela Nikolau has revealed on her Twitter page that she has not faced any action for climbing Merdeka 118.
“Everyone who tried was caught and convicted. I was not,” she says.
However, NST reports that police will be calling them in for questioning. In her tweet, Nikolau claimed to have “escaped imprisonment”, but did not elaborate. She promised to tell the whole story after the new year celebrations.
KL deputy police chief Yahaya Othman told NST, Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus will be investigated for trespassing.
Yahaya adds, that he has not received a report from Merdeka 118’s owner about the incident yet.
The 678.9 metre-tall tower is not opened to the public yet, and is due for completion in 2023. It has been touted as the world’s second tallest building.
