Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that Lizzo recreates a meme of Marge Simpson in her Halloween costume.Lizzo, Bret McKenzie and The Simpsons – what a truly batshit but iconic combo.

Not only is our girl Lizzo a huge fan of Kiwi icon Bret McKenzie from Flight of the Conchords, she’s set to sing a song he wrote in an upcoming episode of The Simpsons.

Humble brag, but I was lucky enough to hear about this yarn straight from the mouth of one of The Simpsons’ key writers, Tim Long.

The Edge was invited to the D23 Expo 2022 in California, where the cast and creators of the show held a panel hosted by Lisa Simpson herself (Yeardly Smith).

Anywho, not only did Tim Long reveal Lizzo’s involvement, he said she loved Bret Mckenzie so much, she recognised him on sight via a Zoom call.

“She was like ‘Oh, it’s Brit!’,” he said, referencing Bret’s Kiwi accent. “And she started singing the Flight of the Conchords song ‘Bret, You’ve Got It Goin’ On’.”.

In regards to the latter, Lizzo recounted how she and Sophia Eris, her best friend and longtime collaborator, appeared on “Boytrouble,” a song by Prince and his backing band 3rdeyegirl that appeared on the album Plectrumelectrum. The pair also got the opportunity to perform at Paisley Park. But the most notable reveal about Lizzo’s relationship with Prince is that he had offered to produce an album for her prior to his death.

“I used to be so upset that I never had co-signs,” she had told Rolling Stone in a previous interview. “I was like, ‘I’m too weird for the rappers and too black for the indies.’ I was just sitting in this league of my own. To be embraced by Prince and co-signed, I am eternally grateful for that.”

As for the topic of making music for black women, she said:

“As a black woman, I make music for people, from an experience that is from a black woman. I’m making music that hopefully makes other people feel good and helps me discover self-love. That message I want to go directly to black women, big black women, black trans women. Period.”
