Information reaching Kossyderrickent has it that X community notes confirm President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, wearing keffiyeh was in 2018.

Taking to social media, an X user, shared a picture in which Michael D. Higgins wore a keffiyeh. X community notes dropped a correction and it reads,

“This was not today, it was a protest in 2008, see bottom of Indymedia article

Higgins is now 82 , clearly this pic is not him now , see link.”

President Michael D. Higgins has been a true friend to the Palestinian people. His very presence in Áras an Uachtaráin will symbolise respect for “solidarity and international law” which the Palestinian people need now more than ever’.

President Higgins has an honourable and long-standing record as a supporter of Palestinian human and political rights.

On 13th April 2008 he joined an IPSC demonstration that marched from the Central Bank in Dublin to the Dáil in remembrance of the 1948 Israeli massacre at Deir Yassin. In his speech he said:

“This demonstration is an opportunity to once again call on the State of Israel to cease its senseless, oppressive policies towards the people of Palestine and to enter a genuine dialogue for peace. It is past time that the international community discharged its debt to the Palestinian people, who have waited too long for normality and peace to reign in their lives. The international community must assist in making this happen through solidarity, support and international law.”

With the unholy alliance of the EU, Israel and the US now punishing the Palestinians for democratically electing Hamas to political power, Gaza is the concentration camp, the West Bank the open prison where: “The obliteration of an entire people by slow systematic methods of suffocation, outright murder and the stifling of everyday life” (Edward Said) is happening.

If this is how the EU is behaving now, what will its form be towards Palestine and the World, if and when the self-amending and self-serving Lisbon Treaty is passed?. “One of the more disturbing aspects of the Lisbon Treaty is the way it creates new openings for involvement in military adventures. The Treaty would increase the militarisation of the EU, as all states would have to increase their military spending. The Treaty commits the EU to working with US dominated NATO and therefore closely ties Europe to US foreign policy.” The Lisbon Treaty also gives the EU the power ‘to fight terrorism, including supporting third countries in combating terrorism,” with the Foreign Secretary; David Miliband, of a country that criminally attacked a country five years ago and allowed Israel to devastate Lebanon two years ago as the proposed EU foreign minister, it’s no quantum leap into febrile surmise that the “third country” will be Israel and the “terrorists” will be Hamas, Hezbollah or any group opposing its imperial hubris.?
