The college basketball world was so surprised by one performance on Wednesday night that it immediately bestowed a new nickname on the star player.
After his career-high 35 points in Indiana State’s win over Evansville on Wednesday, fans began calling center Robbie Avila “Cream Abdul-Jabbar.”
Longtime Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully and Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar will be among 21 individuals who will be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the White House announced Wednesday.
“The Presidential Medal of Freedom is not just our nation’s highest civilian honor — it’s a tribute to the idea that all of us, no matter where we come from, have the opportunity to change this country for the better,” President Barack Obama said in a White House news release. “From scientists, philanthropists, and public servants to activists, athletes, and artists, these 21 individuals have helped push America forward, inspiring millions of people around the world along the way.”
Much like the legendary player formerly known as Lew Alcindor, Avila is a crafty big man with a soft touch. He showed an ability to score at all three levels and even showed off his passing skills with a few assists.
Fans were excited to see his highlights, and they reacted on social media.
“The greatest nickname in college basketball,” said one fan.
