It’s a middle of the road draw for the Gunners. Inter and Atalanta away are two of the more difficult draws Arsenal could have gotten from that slot. Sporting and Monaco were two of the clubs you’d rather avoid from Pot 2 and Pot 3. Shakhtar is one of the weaker clubs in Pot 2, so that makes the draw more palatable.
The Gunners were in Pot 2, which is somewhat disappointing. Clubs are sorted into groups based on their UEFA coefficient, and Arsenal’s is hurt by having no contributing points from the 21/22 season spent out of European competition entirely. The coefficient is based on the previous five years of competition, so that blank won’t drop off for two more seasons.
