The couple — who went public with their romance in August 2022 — got engaged on Saturday in Los Angeles, a rep for the singer confirms exclusively to PEOPLE.
Lutes, a 32-year-old songwriter who first met Lovato in January 2022 when they co-wrote her song “Substance,” popped the question with a bespoke pear-shape diamond solitaire engagement ring created by N.Y.C. luxury jewelry boutique Material Good.
Jutes helped write multiple songs on Lovato’s most recent album, Holy Fvck, including second single “Substance” as well as “Happy Ending” and “City of Angels.”
In September, Lovato told Howard Stern that she and Jutes have definitely discussed marriage.
“It’s been about a year and a half [of dating], so we’re taking our time with it a little bit, you know? I think it’s important not to rush that,” they said. “We started off as friends, and we built that foundation of friendship first. There’s this partnership there that is just so magnetic, and the way that we laugh together — it’s just nonstop.”
“I definitely am in a really good place,” Lovato told CBS Mornings earlier this year while promoting their new music. “I don’t know what I’m going to write about on my next album because I’m so happy. It is a really good feeling … definitely a bunch of sappy love songs — for sure.”
In July Lovato opened up to SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up about their love story, saying they were “friends first and foremost.”
