The attack on INDIA bloc’s North East Delhi candidate Kanhaiya Kumar Friday, a week before polling in the Capital, has snowballed into a controversy with the Congress accusing the BJP for the assault, saying that it showed the party’s desperation.
Kanhaiya was attacked by two men who slapped him and flung black ink on him after a meeting organised by AAP councillor Chhaya Sharma at her office in New Usmanpur in North East Delhi.
Yesterday, while Kanhaiya Kumar was campaigning, someone in the crowd interrupted and slapped him while pretending to garland him, and another person sprinkled ink on him. Reports indicate that the attacker slapped Kanhaiya Kumar multiple times consecutively, but Kanhaiya’s supporters caught and beat the assailant severely.
Media reports indicate that Congress has accused the BJP of orchestrating the attack on Kanhaiya Kumar during the election campaign. Congress leaders claim that the individuals who slapped Kanhaiya and threw ink on him were sent by the BJP, holding the party responsible for the attack. It should be noted that Kumar, a candidate from the INDIA Alliance of Congress, is contesting the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the North seat of Delhi.
