Bittereinder’s leader, Francois van der Merwe, was arrested yesterday in Groblersdal after a clash with police in front of the court.
The Bittereinders were protesting the arrest of Piet Groenewald (63) and his stepson, Stefan Greeff (27) on Thursday. Groenewald is the owner of Wildlife Investigation and Protection Services and an old colonel who is well known in security circles in Limpopo.
Groenewald and Greeff were arrested after a farm worker (name not available) reported to police that he was assaulted by the duo. According to the 30 yr old farm worker, he was beaten with a blunt object and one of the security dogs were set on him.
The Bittereinders’ leader, Francois van der Merwe, is currently out on bail for an incident that took place in December 2023. He was arrested for hitting another patron of a pub in Gezina over the head with a brandy bottle, during a Steve Hofmeyr performance.
