What sets Mahlangu apart is her ability to seamlessly blend tradition and modernity in her artistic practice. She applies Ndebele motifs and colors to various mediums, such as canvas, murals, sculptures, and even cars. Her distinctive style features bold lines, intricate geometric patterns, and vibrant primary colors, instantly recognizable and visually stunning.
In the 1980s, Mahlangu gained international recognition through a collaboration with French artists to paint the walls of the Musée d’Art Contemporain in Paris. This groundbreaking project showcased Ndebele art on a global stage and marked her journey as a cultural ambassador. Her work challenged preconceived notions about African art, resonating with diverse audiences and highlighting its contemporary relevance.
