Philip April sentenced to life for murder of his ex-girlfriend
Philip April was sentenced to life in prison for murdering his ex-girlfriend Allison Plaatjies, a teacher, in Clanwilliam, Cape Town in October 2019.
“You assaulted her body almost to the state of decapitation,” said Acting Judge Nonthuthuzelo Ralarala while handing down sentence on Tuesday.
April attacked Plaatjies so severely and also bit her face until her gums showed. April’s explanation was that he was distraught over failing his teaching exam and on 26 October 2019. He attacked Plaatjies during an argument over his drinking at her flat.
He then stole her Hyundai i20, said Ralarala.
He was also sentenced to five years for stealing the car. People in the public gallery applauded the sentence and he was whisked away.
